I painted these two wooden canvases that I hire my Father Bob (Papa) Cerins to create. I give Papa the dimensions and he builds them. The 3-dimensional painting in the lower half of this image is a wooden Cajon drum. Two of the four sides of this drum are for creating music and two sides of the drum are created for strength. There is a round hole in one side of the drum for the rhythm to flow from. These paintings were created as a diptych for an entry into the Canada Council Art Bank http://www.artbank.ca/.
My father and I love to cooperate of projects.
Papa is an amazing wood worker and friend.

"Art Is The Center Of Earth" is an idea Robert Cerins had a few years ago as he fulfills his goal of cheering up the planet. He thought we all need more meaning in our lives. A reason to get up in the morning. So Robert thought "what is the best way to cheer up the planet"? He answered after much thought "if I make myself happy then whoever I meet through out the day might feel the joy inside me and then they can decide if they want to join in my joy.
The painting to the left is called "Bamfiled Meets Alexander". Robert created this painting for donating to Alexander Elementary School in Duncan, BC to fund raise for next years trip. On May 2, 3, & 4, 2006 Robert went to Bamfield, BC with the fifth and sixth graders from Alexander Elementary School. Their teachers Mrs. Stevensen, Mrs. Scott and a few parents accompanied. They all stayed at the Bamfield Marine Science Research Centre. The research centre is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. The painting is a small section of Brady's Beach. The cragy rock formations there are tall and towering with a few pine trees on the top. While the bottom of the rock formation rests in the blue pacific ocean. Life is abundant in the tidal pools and sea stars wait patiently for the tide to come and engulf them once again. We will let you know when Alexander Elementary School is having the auction for this painting in case you are interested in buying a raffle ticket.
Robert enjoyed painting "Bamfield Meets Alexander" as he had many great memories from the three days he spent with 45 children looking at sea creatures, walking on beaches, eating nori seaweed fresh from the rocks, and having breakfast at 7:30am to inspire his painting spirit. We look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Namaste,
